James (Jim) S. Lofton
President and CEO
Center for Citizenship, Enterprise and Government
Jim Lofton presently serves as President and CEO of the Center for Citizenship, Enterprise and Government. The mission of the Center for Citizenship, Enterprise and Government (CCEG) is to educate and inform the public on the interrelationship between citizenship, private enterprise and government in order to build a more just and prosperous society.
Jim has been in Raleigh since December 1984. He served as Chief of Staff to former Governor James G. Martin from 1985-1987 and was then named Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Administration. He served in this capacity from 1987 through 1993. Prior to this, Jim served as Chief of Staff to former U. S. Congressman James G. Martin.
After leaving State Government, Jim worked in the private sector as President, J. W. Grand Construction Company, Inc. from 1993 to 1996. Following this, he served as President of the North Carolina Association of Financial Institutions from 1996 to 1999 and then as President of Wake Technology Academy from 2000 through 2002.
Jim presently serves as Treasurer of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, Member of the Board of the N. C. Council on Economic Education, Downtown Raleigh Historic Districts Commission, the Board of Directors of the Public School Forum, State Capital Foundation and the E. A. Morris Charitable Trust.
Jim has been very active in The Church of the Good Shepherd since moving to Raleigh.
Jim was born in Charlotte and attended public school there. He attended Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk from 1961 to 1963. Following this, he attended the US Chamber of Commerce Executive Institution at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, from 1966-1969.
He is married to the former Sarah Knight. They have three grown children and two grandchildren.
